Gearbox cover/ floor seal

Post by John Naylor »

Before refitting the transmission tunnel/ gearbox cover to the floor with its multiple brass screws, I'd like to apply some sort of sealant to reduce noise/ squeaks/ draft/ dirt. I have removed an ancient gunge and wonder if some sort of dum-dum was used originally. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John

I use a 25mm x 3mm 'closed' cell self-adhesive foam strip all round the transmission cover to floor seal. Works very well and means that the cover can be removed/replaced without needing to replace the seal.

'Closed' cell is important to prevent the ingress of moisture through the seal.

As above works a treat, that's exactly what I used, ebay is a great source of it.
