Chassis legs replacement

Post by Hillclimb1 »

Hi chaps, going to be soon replacing the chassis legs on my Morris, from front to centre cross member, my question is has anybody done this without a roll over jig or a ramp? How difficult did you find it? Any pointers before I make a start? Any advice welcome on this subject :D

I've never done it without turning on it's side, it's hard enough then, on the floor would be really hard

Just do one side at a time so that you can use the other chassis leg as datum.
Measure twice cut once.

here you can see the left one already replaced, the right one cut. As you can see, the car was placed on a hydraulic lift. In the front placed under the a-post, in the back at the front spring hanger

I did not do the repair myself, but had the chance to take a look during the repair

If you do go ahead with the repair, perhaps you could take photos as you go and post in the Restoration section. I'm sure there would be a lot of interest.

sorry, the repair is finished in the meantime. Miss Sophie is on the road again and got TÜV (MOT) after the chassis legs had been replaced. I posted the photo just to show that it is possible to do this without a roll over jig. Attached the front view
finely replaced were both full chassis legs, both tie plates and the front cross member bottom and top
