Bumper Bolts

Post by geoberni »

Hi All

So, today's question is about Bumper Bolts.
I'm currently in dispute with an ebay seller after ordering bolts which arrived and are too large for the holes in the bumper (I've got 3 bolts missing).
The bolts in question were listed as MGB Bumper bolts , mgc , mga Morris minor etc 3/8 unf
The seller is insisting these will fit a Minor, but they are too big for the holes.

Here's a new one alongside one I took out for comparison.

So, all you really knowledgeable people out there, is it simply a difference between models, i.e. my Series II compared to later '1000' or are there differences between Traveller/Saloon or what?

I've just been looking at the CW site and they don't give sizes, but do describe some bumper bolts as Small Head or Large Head.

Such as 'Traveller - Rear - Large Head' or 'Bolts for front and rear bumpers - Small head'

The traveller rear bumper bolts and the bolts to secure the overriders are the larger size. The smaller bolts - which you require - will probably be 5/16 size. Every Morris Minor specialist will be able to supply them. The quality of plated parts will vary somewhat. I would never purchase such parts on price alone as you will end up buying the poorest quality on the market......

The seller has listed them correctly in that 3/8" bolts are required for some Morris Minor applications but you might reasonably expect him to change them for the smaller size you require? Perhaps he only has that one size though?
