Parcel Shelf - help

Post by plg422d »

I removed the parcel shelf at the statrt of the restoration and its now the last piece to fit. however I can't remember what clips/fixing it uses. Can any one help

also any tips to how to fit it as it doesn't seem to fit very well round the sterring column, is it necessary to trim?

Thanks :(

parcel shelf

The parcel shelves vary considerably from model to model so you have to
ensure that you have the correct type. Some have the steering column passing through them, the earlier ones do not! the edge of the shelf which
is fixed to the bulkhead is secured with split pins and a washer(inside the engine bay) and the 'knee padded bar' has a special washer at each side where a screw mates with a thread in the body through the side panels.
The 'split pins' are actually large headed Bifurcated rivets so I hope you saved them?

Err no I didn't keep them. Are they still available and where exactly do they fit from?

rivets

Post by Willie »

if you look carefully just above the bulkhead ledge in the engine compartment
you will see some small holes where these fittings would poke through from
the inside (the ledge below the petrol pump). If you have lost them then use
small screws with washers and nuts about 6BA will do. I do not know if the
originals are available. If the old shelf was just ripped out then you may be
lucky enough to find the fittings are still there!

Hi there, if you cant find the rivets, be brutal and use small self tappers and cut them to size. Not concourse, but they'll work.

I use small nuts and bolts with a washer on each side.

You need an assistant to help with this.
