Boot handle bolts spaced too close together!
Hey all! I'm based in Australia but order all my parts from the uk, either esm, bullmotif or gs jones.. i ordered a boot handle and gasket for my 1960 morris 1000.. I ordered the part KEY113 seeing as it is for a later model mog..
alas the bolts in the handle are too closely spaced together? just wondering if there was more than one late model type boot handle? and if so where i'd find one with the wider spaced bolts? On those sites there only appears to be 2 types 1 for split screens and one for everyone else?! but I'm wondering if the handle changed for the series 2's and maybe i ended up with one of those not one for a 1000 if so how would i get the correct type!
Cheers,
Tom

The 'later' type boot lock should fit a 1960 car but is it possible that you have an earlier boot lid on your car? This thread explains the different types: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... oot+handle
Measure the gap between the bolts on your old boot lock and ask the supplier of your new lock if they have a lock with those measurements?mollythemoggie wrote:how would i get the correct type!

As far as I am aware the only difference is the early handles have bolts with exposed heads and the later handles had studs. I have fitted both to my car. Can you file the holes?

Re: Boot handle bolts spaced too close together!
hmm on closer inspection
the boot handle I bought was this:
http://www.morrisminorspares.net/shop_item.php?ID=2424
the boot handle on the car is this:
looks like my 1960 has an older boot handle but could someone please confirm that the split screen handles have the holes further apart than the morris 1000 boot handles?

thanks so very much!

Yes, the holes on the earlier handle are definately further apart than the later handles as 'velocemitch' had the same problem. That's why I posted the link to the earlier thread and suggested that you might have an earlier boot lidmollythemoggie wrote: could someone please confirm that the split screen handles have the holes further apart than the morris 1000 boot handles?

Re: Boot handle bolts spaced too close together!
hi Louise! most appreciated! I shall try and return the late model handle and get an older one!
the one thing i then don't understand is how the suppliers can only list the one gasket if the bolt holes are further apart!

Re: Boot handle bolts spaced too close together!
maybe because the gasket doesn't fit either handle very well
The early handle was more expensive (when I got one this year). It was tempting to open up the holes instead...
The early handle should have locking nuts on the screws - that removes the chance that anyone can unscrew the handle. The later handle only has spring washer and a nut because the stud is captive.
