Re: VIN no explained please
Do you know what the G is at the end[frame][/frame]

Re: VIN no explained please
I think the G refers to where the car was built. F at the end indicates an Adderley Park (Birmingham) car and M a car built at Cowley. Not sure what year your car is but the suffix usually refers to post 1968 vehicles. Must admit I have not seen a G at the end before. Anyone else have any thoughts??

Re: VIN no explained please
Ok - your question fired my curiosity too! Having delved a bit deeper - and given the year of the car - I have found that between 1960 and 1964, some Travellers were built at the MG factory in Abingdon. According to Paul Skilleter (Morris Minor - The Worlds Supreme Small Car - P 174 in the first edition) 1360 Travellers were built at Abingdon in 1964 and 4268 in 1963. Although it does not confirm the G suffix I would say, given its relative rarity, and that data above that your car is probably an Abingdon built model - hope that helps? Happy to be corrected if anyone else knows differently

Did think about Abingdon but didn't realise that they would have used "G" from MG but heyho this was Morris!

Re: VIN no explained please
If they had put MG on the end - and tarted up the engine a bit - they could have charged an extra £500 for an MG Traveller!

Re: VIN no explained please
Thanks. I will put that with the rest of my Documentation. I have always fancied a MG TA(raveller).[frame][/frame]

Re: VIN no explained please
The V5C shows an engine no of 82784 although I can't find one on the engine.

Re: VIN no explained please
The chassis number is just that, the serial number of the chassis - it has no relevance to the engine number.
Re: VIN no explained please
The engine number is usually found on an aluminium plate at the front left hand side of the engine (as you look at it with the bonnet up). There is a flat area on the top of the block where it meets the cylinder head. If it is missing, you should still see the two rivet holes where the plate should be. If it was there it would read something like 10v 123E H12345 or in your case 82784
