BMC reclining seats

Post by southerly95 »

I have been asked for pics of covers on the original BMC recliners for the later Morris Minor. See below as I couldn't insert them in a PM. The seat base should take a standard seat cover from ESM/Bull Motif etc but the squab will require one made to a pattern by Newton Commercial - they probably have these available in any case. Or - have a car upholsterer insert a new side seam to a standard squab cover using same colour material. Regards, John.

Thanks for these snaps. The old ripped cover also had carpet at the bottom, so will have to add that to my new cover. Heres the frame so far. It would put you in mind of the early fold flat type 1000 seats with a spring loaded lever and arm that locates into teeth at the sides to set the angle of the back. The cover is held on by a rivet either side and the handle. The base as you say is the same as standard seats but the back is different.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]
The above snap shows where the handle attaches to.

Im modifying a stand cover to fit it, ill let you know how im getting on
