Dipstick sleeve

Post by rjt1951 »

Just checked my oil and the sleeve holding the dipstick came up with it out of the block. Does anyone know how this is secured? I don't think it is threaded. Noticed a little oil near by and concerned it may be forcing it's way out. Any thoughts on how to make sure it stays located in the block.

They usually are just pushed into the engine block, and are a friction fit, small tap with a rubber faced mallet should secure it

Esm sell new ones if yours has lost the will to live. As they are plastic they perhaps become hardened with exposure to the heat in the engine bay. Get a new rubber washer for the dipstick too as will stop any rattles or leaks.

The flat washer they sell just sits against the collar and does not really seal. I find it better to fit a rubber grommet which actually fits into the plastic tube and seals.

Clever idea, I do like your attention to detail. I also notice you have the flats lined up on the oil pipe to union connection! :D

I guessed that one might have been just how it worked out ! Non the less things still look tidy. Think I'll go for the grommet thing. :D
