Exhaust Blow

Post by myoldjalopy »

Hello Peeps!
I have a very small blow where the exhaust pipe exits the rear of the silencer. I'm thinking just smear some exhaust putty round the joint but will this stay in place for long? If not, any better ideas?
Thanks.

Unlikely to be a long term fix. Is it mild steel or stainless? Many stainless exhausts have a "lifetime" warranty so you could try going back to the supplier. If it's mild steel then it's probably time for a new one. Alternatively a quick dab of weld would be the ideal solution.

Mild steel two piece which has been a periodic nuisance and periodically fixed - leaking at manifold, at joint behind silencer and banging against exit from engine bay. I think I will patch it up once more, as I have some exhaust putty and tape lying around, and get a one piece next time, even though they are more of a faff to fit............
