Fuel Cap Rubber

When fitting the rubber hose which surrounds the fuel pipe between the petrol cap and the car body on a Traveller do you supply adhesive where the rubber meets the car body and if so what’s best.

Fit it without sealant first, it’s not an area that gets bombarded with water so it might remain dry. The evidence would be water coming down the filler pipe/area into the boot and this would show up soon enough when washing the car.

And if you find you must seal it, don’t use adhesive (it may need to come out again in future) or anything with silicone in. A bead of Tiger Seal or Wayside Screenseal would be my own choice.

I have just refitted my fuel cap after replacing the cargo bay carpet. I used Gutter Seal. It is sticky, black and can be cleaned off with a rag dampened with white spirit.
