Project cars

Post by Alex'n'Ane »

Having looked around on here i have seen quite a few of the younger members have resto projects going on. rossrox, hotrodder, polo2k and myself all seem to have modified projects going on, and andy (sidney'61?) is restoring sidney still? Are there any other young members with projects going on? What stage are they at and any pics/links? And what will the car hopefully, eventually, be like?

My project's still going slowly, 1961 2-door saloon, I'm restoring it to completely standard.

I've resprayed it (original and quite rare Yukon grey) and rebuilt all of the suspension and brakes[frame]Image[/frame]
Over christmas I'm working on building a new wiring loom then it's all ready to go back together :D

this is my project, Monty. he's been my project for 5 years now! and hasn't really progressed much since buying Bluey 3 years ago!
[frame]Image[/frame]
so far we've done all the necessary welding, and is sporting very little in the way of paint these days. Also, every single bit has been removed for fixng/painting/updating in a bid to get my perfect minor.

Bluey has taught me a lot of things, things i don't like about standard minors that i plan to address with monty!

He came with marina pedal box and discs, and angled ( ) tele dampers at the back. he'll be getting tele dampers at the front to match, along with an antiroll bar too. i fitted one on bluey and it transformed her completely!

i've got an mg midget sat on my drive with a 1275 engine mated to a ford 5 speed and a 3.9 diff in the back, all of which will make their way onto monty when i get round to it! (anyone want a midget shell? )

still not decided on the colour to paint him yet (most likely dark greyish, not a huge fan of black), will probably get 15 inch minilites from JLH and not decided on silver ones or black with a polished lip.

he's having fibreglass panels wherever possible too, the biggest bugbear i've found with bluey is the rust! most likely due to poor maintenance and my driving in all weathers, but monty is meant to be a everyday car, can't be worrying about my wings falling off!

the next job to do to him (after digging him out from the pile of rubbish in the garage) is to set about getting a good fit from the new glass panels, although when i put the bonnet on to line the wings up with it, i found my inner wings are a bit wonky (from being welded on its side i think) so i need to straighten them out!

after than i can do the prep and get it painted up and set about reassembling her. also need to check out the 1275 engine as it leaks a lot of oil from the head gasket. gimme another 5 years and she might be done!

Hows that going to work then? Will they be at a funny angle going through the front inner wings? I hear the more horizontal the better.. :P

Been working on Barry for about 2 years now, the date I've set myself and my dad to get it finished by is next years classic car show at the NEC but I doubt it will be done by then. Here's the project thread: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=27487
R.I.P Barry Morris, you may have been my first Moggy but you won't be my last.

I know that feeling well! I bought mine taxed and MOT'd in 2006 then started fiddling with it  I bought the other minor in 2008 so I could drive when I passed my test as the first one was off the road, It's still not finished!

I Bought My Car Cydney in april in the hope that it would be ready by the time i passed my test. I passed in september and am currently waiting for him to get back from the Garage as he has been sent away to be sprayed. sinse he has been there not much has happened accept him being stripped back to bear metal as apparently the old paint was still soft (it was a really bad paint job whoever did it last) hopefully the new year will bring my Car back. HOPEFULLY  the picture is him at home before he was taken away [frame]Image[/frame]

I bought a car that wasn't supposed to be a project, really. I just wanted to get to driving it. But the first time out, on the way to get it inspected and licensed, I wrecked it...and the extent of the rust on the car became clear. More than a year later, Mog's coming along -- I've replaced a chassis leg, center crossmember, and the entire floor, plus both left wings and a host of patches. It's still a bare shell, of course, and will soon be getting barer so I can flip it on its side.

Here's what it used to look like:[frame]Image[/frame]
And here's the new floor:[frame]Image[/frame]
All done by me...
The way to a man's heart may be making food, but the way to my heart is buying me car parts!

Yes, join the mmoc, and its through footman james. Average i would say is about £500-750 limited milage, or around £900 fully comp, for a standardish minor.
