I've just replaced my old drain plugs with new ones fitted with modern magnets using neodymium and samarium cobalt materials which are far stronger than the ferrite rods I've had for the past few decades. But the old ones still work - see the photo below after they'd been in service for a few thousand miles; on the left is the back axle plug, the middle is that of the gearbox and on the right is the engine sump plug. (I've also magnets around the oil filter which reduces the capture by the sump plug.)If you want them send me a "private message" and I'll post them to you. MikeN.
Morris Minor, the car of the future. One day they will all look like this!
