Green Goddess Fire Engine
At some point (money depending of course) I would love to buy one of these. Not sure what I would do with it, but I'd be happy just looking at it But does anyone have any idea of any sites where these are advertised for sale so that I can keep an eye on the availablity and selling price ??? Not much on the internet currently.

I expect having 5 Minors on the drive has already lowered house prices in your area so I don't think the neighbours would be best pleased

Cheek! ...Well at least we drive our cars. Most of the neighbours venture out once a week to the supermarket and then put the car back in the garage Some of them are too elderly to drive any more ......empty garages!

Re: Green Goddess Fire Engine
Great idea Ian - I only saw one of them the other night and thought goodness haven't seen one for years (am old enough to remember them being actually used when the firemen were on strike in my teenage years!). Mind you they are quite big, had to give it some room down our silly 'traffic calming' road!

I fancied the armoured tracked carrier Might stop the people who park down our road to collect their children (15/16 yr olds who don't appear to have legs) from school - we live in a cul de sac

Re: Green Goddess Fire Engine
Oh I'd imagine the petrol consumption is something to behold all right. Never driven one. Just a dream of Bedford ownership. Some people at my age want a mercedes or a bmw, I want an old fire-engine

Re: Green Goddess Fire Engine
I was thinking of it more of a deterrent! There are times of the day when we simply can't get out of the road! They park on both sides Have driven an outside broadcast vehicle round the pound once. They were enormous and heavy

Re: Green Goddess Fire Engine
I remember the green goddesses from the firefighters strike a few years ago. From memory the top speed was something like 40 or 45mph! Can you drive them on an ordinary car licence, or would you have to take another (7.5t?) test?

Re: Green Goddess Fire Engine
You need an LCV Class C (HGV3). You can budget that into your costings. But don't let me put you off

Well it would certainly be something "different" to enter in the Open Class!

Re: Green Goddess Fire Engine
Above all, one of these vehicles needs undercover storage. Much of the rear body is made of wood and like Minor Travellers they deteriorate dramatically if left exposed to the weather.
Unless you have somewhere to store the vehicle indoors, and they are bigger than they look, I would advise against purchasing one.
