ford engine

Post by mohawk9069 »

hey,

was just wondering what sort of performance you would get out of a 1300 ford escort engine with or without mods, as there is a possiblity i may be getting a minor with a 1600 xflow in, however part of the deal is my mate gives me the money, i buy, he has the 1600 and i have the rest of it for free.

seen as he happens to have a couple of 1300s o and an 1800 pinto kicking around just thought id ask

cheers

Since the x flow is a larger/heavier engine a 1300 version will give you a worse power to weight ratio than a 1300 A series engined Minor. For decent power can you not fight to keep the 1600 as you would have to build the 1300 into a cammy screamer to get the benefit of its 8 port design.

i did think about a 1275 or such like but fancied something diffrent seens to be alot of car kicking about with a series upgrades, i was looking at the 1300 xflow and it doesnt seem to be much bigger than an a series!?! now rethinking that the 1800 pinto is going to be to big insurence wise and ive herd you have to put alot of money into them to get the power out

The 1300 crossflow will fit in a minor engine bay without any issues, a few 1600's have ben fitted. The crossflow design will give them more performance than the a series, an with a twin downdraught you can get a fair bit of power out of them. If your after a gearbox give me a shout as i have a friend who has a couple lying around. Or after all, just go for the type 9! :)

While a bit more work to fit than an A series 1275 initially, once you have the Ford 1300 fitted it will be a straight swap one day to fit a 1600 Xflow for which plenty of tuning parts are still available (but maybe not cheap). And most ford engines have the same mounting points for gearbox so once the Ford gearbox is in, it's a step easier to fit a modern Ford engine.
