1971 Morris Minor Traveler fuel pump
Hi all, i have a Morris Minor Traveler. My car has a weird clicking noise i believe its the fuel pump b/c I replaced it from the old one which did not click and the new one clicks so I am wondering if that means i have a bad Fuel Pump?
Re: 1971 Morris Minor Traveler fuel pump
It sounds like you have an air lock, let some petrol out of the hose where it connects to the carb and reconnect. They click when pumping and click quickly when hunting for fuel.
Re: 1971 Morris Minor Traveler fuel pump
it clicks two times when at the on position then as it running it clicks faster and faster as you push the gas pedal.
Re: 1971 Morris Minor Traveler fuel pump
My first post assumed the car wasn't running but obviously it is. The more fuel that's used the more it will click, surprised you can hear it over the engine noise. Apart from the clicking what's the problem?

The pumps are supposed to click - it's when it stops you have to worry! If you (as I do) find it immensely annoying, you can replace it with a constant pressure pump fitted under the rear seats, and just disconnect the wiring to the old pump.
Looks original - sounds quieter! Then you also have a backup pump

The Pump is a high performance pump that could be a reason for the clicking.
I am trying to post pictures but its not letting me!!

As far as I know you have to upload them to an online repository such as flickr, then just post links... that's what I did any way.

No, there's no need to upload photos to a separate site - you can upload them here directly from your pc. If you have a problem it's most probably because the photos are too large so re-size them and try again. Instructions for uploading photos are here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=36971

Unless you have fitted a high performance engine there is no need at all for a high performance pump.
The carb is expecting to get fuel at about 2 psi.

Re: 1971 Morris Minor Traveler fuel pump
Why on earth have you fitted a 'high performance' pump? If it truly is 'high performance' it will be flooding the carb. Put the old pump back on....... And - you have a Traveller - not a Traveler - yes, I know the speling is different in USA - but the name was given in the UK!!

this is the existing pump[frame][/frame][frame][frame]
The carb but not sure if original

It's an HIF carb - looks like a 1275 engine. The pump looks quite normal. Ticking is good! Worry when it stops ticking.......
I wouldn't be relying on that tie-wrap to secure the rubber hose to the pump! Get a proper metal clamp on there........
