Type 9 to mk2 escort back axle prop shaft

Post by Suzukimorris »

Hi, anybody know the details of prop shaft for type 9 Sierra box to ford mk2 escort diff?I used proptech on my Suzuki to morris prop but I had both the respective ends so Simply measured the gap cut the ends off i needed and gave it to him. Just wondered if an escort prop fits the type 9 etc so I just got to get its length modified, or if a need an escort axle and a Sierra axle and do as I did before?

Hope that makes sense.

Count the splines on the gearbox then take the flange off the back axle so they can match the holes up. The company you take them to should be able to make up a new complete propshaft. That's what I did, mine cost me £180 :D

Fair enough I thought it would probably be easiest to do that, was just trying to figure out if I could buy a twenty quid prop shaft with the right ends for them to utilise cos when I provided them it cost about £85. That's a nice looking mog, what you runnning in it? Was your prop type 9 to escort English axle?

I had a prop shaft made for one of my cars. (Mk2 escort box to axle)

I just supplied the details to the supplier and they made it to suit. He calculated the figures wrong twice mind so it was too short, but been running now for two years and all ok.

I did this is for a marina axle- but its basically the same. (Instructions modified slightly for the ford axle)

I found an escort, single piece propshaft with a type 9 spline on on end. I don't think they are common so get looking! (I didn't care what was on the other end, but it was english). The prop was about 3" too long (I allowed about 1" of slide before the prop bottomed out on the gearbox), so I got the hacksaw out and carefully cut the rear flange off, running parallel to the weld bead. I then carefully measured and marked the amount I needed to remove from the cut edge and wrapped some wide tape around it so the edge was on the marks. Again I carefully hacksawed the excess off.

I then chamfered the edges on both cuts, aligned the yokes and pushed the end in. I then welded it up.

Without any balancing there was a slight vibration, but it was completely useable.

Heres a new propshaft - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Escort-MK1-MK ... _645wt_904

They may even be able to make them to length for you?
