I'm 6ft 2in, will I fit into the front seat of a Moggy?

Post by mattinhertford »

No, its not a windup! I'm on the hunt for a Moggy having decided to have a midlife crisis. I got into one for the first time ever at the weekend and could barely get my knees under the steering wheel. Do the seats adjust backwards? I didn't have time to investigate in the one I sat in, hence my question here. I'm having a slight panic that my midlife crisis might come to an end before it starts!

Thanks

You are short compared to my old boss's son who was quite a lot taller than you and he fitted in a Minor with plenty of room to spare.
Yes the seat will go back. There are a series of captive nuts under the floor and you just use the ones you want.
The drivers seat will adjust independently. there is a lever under the seat see attached instruction from BMC Minor wksp manual.[frame]Image[/frame]

Was it a two door or a four door?? four door front doors are much shorter than the two door/Traveller/Convertible. I'm 6ft 1 and there is plenty of room in a con/2dr or Trav with the seat properly adjusted. But I do struggle to get into an LCV (Van or Pick up and 4 door) :-)

I'm 6'1" and fit in my '65 2-door easily, though I've got Newton Commercial seats that are bolted one hold further back. I'm also quite happy behind the wheel in my '57 4-door with the original seats in the factory standard position.

I'm 6 ft 2 inches and 20 stone so not small. I drive a four door saloon. All I do is back into the car but once I'm in its fine plenty of room.

I'm 6'2" and 17 stone (also long legs and size 11 feet) - I fit in my Traveller and 2door, just need to pull my feet in a bit as I sit down first and then pull my legs in (back and knee problems). I use the same technique to get in my larger "modern".
If you go for a Series MM, Series II or Series III moggy with the 3-spoke steering wheels, there may not be much gap between the lower lip of the wheel and any abdominal projection you may have
Regards, George.

My hubby is 6ft 2 in and can fit behind the wheel and comfortably drive my 4 door saloon although he does move the seat back.

--- 46" and 34" (used to be 36" in the early 1970's) - I still have a 3-piece suit with 2nd pair of trousers made up by Alexanders (a High Street bespoke tailor) in the mid 70's that has the flaired trouser leg and inside leg measurement of 36" (and I was asked "which side does Sir dress?"). My Daughter borrowed a pair if these trousers for a retro do - the waist size on these is 32" - will never fit again!

.....And don't forget that when our cars were originally designed men were expected to wear their hats whilst driving!

Quite right too! And a suitable shirt and tie..

Minors are actually quite spacious inside, I'm not small by any means and have no problems.

All this talk about size is making me think a Minor is too big for me!

You can always fit a smaller steering wheel if you feel the original minor one restricts your legs as well
