Well when I have Nut B and the spring off and the jet pushed in all the way, the piston will rise and fall with an audible clunk, is this what I am looking for? Then I can replace Nut B and the spring and adjust that?

Ok, I finally found good instructions online!! I DO need to be able to undo Nut A to adjust it, does anybody know what size it is?

I should have stated that the nut A holds the part that locates the jet. Yes, the jet must be all the way in, the needle all the way down, and then tighten nut A to lock it in place. Nut B controls how far in the jet can travel, thus adjusting the mixture. What you have done is correct. During the mixture adjustment process occasionally recheck that the clunk still happens.

ok, so the fact that if I tighten nut B all the way up with the spring on and the jet in the clunk stops isn't a bad thing. Am I correct?

Just checking I've done it all ok, like I said, I couldn't undo nut A to adjust it. I just moved nut B up and down.

Make sure the needle is not sticking down too far - in fact - why not remove the needle - and test for clunk without the needle fitted. The piston should fall to land on a raised 'rivet' head on the bridge - I'm sure it will! The needle should then be fitted with the shoulder in line with the base of the piston.

Carb back on with throttle cable and vacuum advance reattached and air filter. Just to re make my dash and attach choke cable now.

Cleaning in Coke then petrol has worked wonders to highlight how filthy to rest is....[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Just a small point, but if the pancake filter is used without a stub stack you will actually lose efficiency (and hence torque and power) compared to the standard system!

Not very much admittedly, but if you compare the pancake with and without insert then we are talking 3-4%, which is massive in tuning terms!

The reason for this is that the air has to turn 90 degrees over a sharp lip, which causes restrictions to the flow. It also helps create noise, which is the sole purpose of a pancake filter! Fitting the stub stack creates a nice rounded throat for the air and hence improves flow.

K&N are very good flowing filters although their reputation (helped by David Vizard) seems to be even better than their products!

They go on top of the back plate, you may need longer bolts with the billet type - depends how deep the counter bores are.

You need the second one in Panky's post. The others will not work together with the pancake filter.

Edit. Interesting, I just had a look on eBay to see if there were any on there. I could only find different types with a higher profile. These lose much of their advantage of the smooth flow into the mouth by adding another sharp corner into the flow. They also effectively reduce the depth of the filter can, further adversely affecting flow.

Rimmer Bros have them, but in pairs (phone a friend?)

No, I would say that that one would give very little improvement.
