Half an hour from home , fantastic !
Re: MMOC National Rally 2017
4 hours from home, all motorway, near Gatwick airport, fantastic.
Seriously team, well done, looks a excellent venue.
Only need our government to allow us to reclaim our tax back on historic vehicle fuel, now there's an idea.
Regards to all Win

185 miles away for me. Should be a nice little run up the A303. But will the car be ready?

Re: MMOC National Rally 2017
Hi,
Whilst I can understand our southern members wanting a national rally that is a little further south, I think that putting it practically on the south coast might put allot of northern / midlands members off going.
Its just my opinion mind but I will be interested to see how many turn up for this one.
Also having got one virtually on the south coast, southern members can have no grounds to moan about a rally in Scotland in 2018!
It's 182 miles from me in Mansfield (a round trip of 364 miles), that's if I go the motorway route, which involves the M25 (something that would put anybody off leaving their driveway in itself!! ), which is not to say I won't go but I will have to be sure that Olwyn is happy with the prospect first.......... Time for me to do the brakes and sort the gearbox / diff out.....
As an aside 'Distance calculator UK' quotes 3 hours and 11 minutes, I wonder how long by a 948 engined Morris Minor.......
Best wishes,
Mike.

I think Ed has the right attitude in saying there has been a fair share of rallies further north, which he was closer to and seems quite happy to share the locations with us guys down south. Well said Ed.

It's literally a hop across the Channel for me, so no excuse for not going.

Re: MMOC National Rally 2017
It depends what you call north. The last few have been in the midlands, which is roughly the middle of England, however some people consider that the north, which is wholly inaccurate.there has been a fair share of rallies further north
And if the midlands is just the middle of England, then you can see the Scots point of view that we have been more selfish by blanking their requests to hold the rally north of the border.
When was the last time a national rally was held in Scotland??
(Olwyn willing) I will attend the one on the south coast, though I will be packing a tent, as I'm blowed if I'll pay the extortionate price of a B & B down there (mind you high B & B prices seem to be creeping further up the country....)
And as an aside, the charity car is proving that a well prepared and maintained Morris Minor will take you anywhere in the country, so no excuses on that front.......
Best wishes,
Mike.

I suggest it's held in Scotland next year, be interesting to see how many turn up.
Re: MMOC National Rally 2017
I would, done Essex to Inverness (and back) by Minor a couple of times, no problem.

Re: MMOC National Rally 2017
With regard to the location of the National Rally, it is moved around the country at the request of the membership. The south has been requested many times previously and this time it will be there. Also taken into account is the concentration of members in the particular areas which is why Scotland does get a rough deal on things as there would be so few people prepared to travel that the rally would be tiny and irritate most of the membership. If you do have any suggestions on how to circumnavigate this problem, please do let me/us know and we'll have a look at it as we do want the membership to be happy but you can't please all of the people all of the time.
Personally, I don't care where it is. I'll still travel if it's at Dover, John O'Groats, Lands End, Anglesey, Belfast, etc, etc. but not everyone thinks that way. I see the travelling in the cars as part of the National. For me, the National Rally starts at my house and finishes in the same place a few days later...
EDIT: my own purely personal opinion is that I'd love a National Rally a long distance away as I like driving my Minors and Scotland or Northern Ireland would be very attractive for me - more of an adventure, both places I love but don't visit as often as I would like. Wales however is much closer to me so less of an adventure, but I'd certainly not turn my nose up to one there either as there are some stunning places in Wales.
