Re: Favourite countries in Europe
Anyone remember crushed velvet jeans with psychedelic inserts that enhanced the flared legs? Not that I was a fashion victim or anything in the early '70's
It was the 'triangle ' thing that brought it to mind.

Re: Favourite countries in Europe
Whilst Spain/Costa del Sol (flights to Malaga) remains my firm favourite, the current absence of an airline which is (1) still operating, (2) able to roster its crews efficiently and (3) prepared to offer affordable flights from Birmingham, may cause me to view Weston-Super-Mare in a more favourable light!

Dorset was great when we visited early July...just before the weather reverted to typical.

Dorset... used to like Bournemouth. Happy memories of family holidays (the whole clan with aunts uncles and cousins too) in the 1970s. Saddening now. Hotel where we used to stay is still standing but been derelict and boarded-up for over a decade now

Re: Favourite countries in Europe
Good old Blighty for me. I'm not well travelled; been to France, Belgium (Basically for Grand Prix), Holland, Germany, Austria & Italy (If you count a cross border run to Cortina) and if I go abroad again, Austria (Where I have spent most time) or classic Le Mans head the list and a trip to see the Mediterranean could be tagged on to either.
One of the best holidays I ever had was a week in Porthmadoc, with plenty of steam action, though I spent a few weeks (Over the years) in Ironbridge, which is near the Severn Valley Railway and not too far from the Welshpool & Llanfair.
On my to do list is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Hadrian's Wall but broadly speaking, I'm happy enough in the area covered by the Rivers Usk, Wye & Severn .

Re: Favourite countries in Europe
If you do Hadrian's Wall, take a little detour to Vindolanda. Just south of the main wall and not such spectacular scenery but quite fascinating.
The ground conditions, damp and anaerobic, led to remarkable preservation of organic materials. Letters on wood sheets from soldiers to their Mums...'can you send me some new socks?'

Definitely, I'm lucky to have this region for driving old cars and modern motorbikes around on my doorstep.irmscher wrote:The Peak district is lovely and also Cheshire some great car runs

Try Kettlewell to Tan Hill by the most direct route. Incomparable.
