Bonnet Release Anti -Rattle Spring
The upper attachment piece on the bonnet release rod is missing on our Traveller. Are these a separate piece available as a spare or is their an aftermarket "alternative" item that could be used?

Re: Bonnet Release Anti -Rattle Spring
36 is nothing to do with the bonnet release mechanism. It sits on the bulkhead either side of the car under the side of the bonnet and stops the bonnet banging on the bulkhead.
You can see them top left and right hand corner of the attached photo

I'm guessing redduster has misread 36 for 38 - Tear Drop Bracket.

Possibly and if that is missing I suspect the spring will be gone too !

Whilst the spring anchor plate (either Pt No: ACA5314/ADA2463) is no longer available from MOSS a similar and useable plate is available from Mini Spares:-

If the body plate Pt No: ACA 5314 (moss) is missing the following can be utilised:-

Re: Bonnet Release Anti -Rattle Spring
Not that I wish to hijack this topic about release bar components, but I have a question about the Round Buffer #36.
According to the CW website, they were fitted from '51, but my '55 doesn't have them, nor does it have any holes around that location. Can anyone confirm that are supposed to be fitted to early Series II models?
I find it hard to imagine anyone has ever replaced that area of the bodywork.
Also, the RH (but only the RH) of my 2 front pyramid buffers has a round insert in the mounting hole but I don't see those listed anywhere. Is that a random bit that someone has added?
All the photos that I see of bonnet raised Moggies just seem to be pyramids with holes showing...

I'll have a look at my '56 split-screen in the morning and let you know what I find about the round buffers. It does have pyramid bump-stops with holes... no round inserts.

Interesting
These two later Series 2' seem to have them and the pyramid stops at the front.

Following on from yesterday, here is one of my rubber buffers attached to the bulkhead (yes, I do have one each side. Nice close-up of my micro-blistering problems as well!geoberni wrote:Not that I wish to hijack this topic about release bar components, but I have a question about the Round Buffer #36.

Re: Bonnet Release Anti -Rattle Spring
Cheers palacebear.
Reading the details on the Moss listing, the screw is only a No8 self tapper, so mine were probably removed when they did the respray and the holes are filled with paint so they never went back on.
If only I hadn't refitted my glovebox liners a few weeks back, I'd take a look from the inside and probably find a line of black paint running down the inside!
So that's something else to add to the snagging list (along with the missing rubber strip from the top of the firewall/bulkhead)

The mushroom buffers at the front are still a mystery tho. Where did they come from? It looks like they fit into the pyramids.

There's only one on the Passenger side, but yes, it fits nicely.firedrake1942 wrote:The mushroom buffers at the front are still a mystery tho. Where did they come from? It looks like they fit into the pyramids.
I had a good look this evening with a torch held at all sorts of angles, and I can't see any sign of a small screw hole for the top buffers.
I do have an endoscopic type camera that I can plug into the laptop, so I might feed that through the slot in the top of the glovebox liner and see if I can detect a hole from the inside.
The rest of the spray job is pretty 'average to poor' in quality, so I can't imagine anyone filled any screw holes, it's a real mystery.

Re: Bonnet Release Anti -Rattle Spring
Maybe it was a 'Friday Car' and it was simply forgotten!
Re: Bonnet Release Anti -Rattle Spring
I mistyped, the part number was 38.
The car could well have been a Friday type as was one of the last Travellers assembled in Adderley Park, no evidence but serial number suggests this and being registered 1971.
Now having the part from CW, how is the teardrop fixed to the rod?
Thanks

Re: Bonnet Release Anti -Rattle Spring
If you stand at the front of the car, bonnet open, at the left hand side of the radiator is a joint where the long rod 26, fits into the corner piece 24. it is held in place, if memory serves, by a circlip or a split pin. I think you can just see it on the photo of my car without the bonnet. Slacken the spring 27, on 26 if fitted (it should be but not sure what attached to if the teardrop is missing - one end should be on the front panel through a small hole).
Remove 26 from 24 and disengage . Then you should be able to slide the teardrop over 26. Don't over extend the spring when re-assembling (If missing or already tired, it may be worth replacing this spring 27 - See my photo for approx positioning ). Don't forget the circlip / split pin or the whole gubbins will vibrate loose.
Sorry if this sounds like an IKEA manual.
