Going under the hammer... today!
www.brightwells.com
Cars for auction include Minor Million 1000318, a left-hand drive low-light saloon, a Series 2 cheesegrater convertible conversion (all for restoration) and a half decent looking Series 2 Traveller. A couple of Minor pedal cars too.
A load of other BMC/BL and other makes in the sale including some rarities like a J2 camper van with 'Paralanian' full-width caravan bodywork.
All from the Jaguar/Land Rover Collection. All offered with no reserve price.
Auction was this morning. Be interesting to see what sort of prices they made.

Re: Going under the hammer... today!
It sold for £7200 plus premium. And was pretty rough although complete.

Well they aren’t making any more of them.ManyMinors wrote:It sold for £7200 plus premium. And was pretty rough although complete.
Morris prices can only go up as they become rarer. And the Million is the rarest of the non-prototypes

Eek, there's some metal missing from there. The fact it's a million makes it well worth doing though.

Re: Going under the hammer... today!
Given that, when new, Millions weren't treated as being very 'special', it's good that It's survived at all. Hopefully the new owner will have the time and money to invest in it to secure its future.
Don't suppose said new owner is a forum user....??

Re: Going under the hammer... today!
"Half decent" is optimistic. The catalogue description stated that "the all important woodwork looks reasonably sound"......palacebear wrote:http://www.brightwells.com

Somebody still paid £3200 plus premium for it.

Working off phone. Laptop dead (thank you Windows 10 updates! ) Only got the pre-catalogue thumbnails and a very small screen to view on. Didn't see the extent of the rot!

I reckon perhaps some of the bidders were at home viewing pictures on their phones too

Re: Going under the hammer... today!
The buyer of the Traveller has decided to try and move it on.......I see it is now for sale on ebay and the car and classic website where the woodwork (see photo above) is described as "sound and presentable"
Apparently it simply requires some tlc and will then be worth over £20,000! Please form an orderly queue.

Re: Going under the hammer... today!
I was always told that "you can't polish a t*rd" but it appears that you can
To be fair, once the seller had paid the auctioneers hammer price, their commission and VAT, then transported it home, seemingly got it running and then carried out said polishing and paintwork touching up.....he isn't going to get rich even if he does achieve his asking price. I don't think he knows much about Morris Minors or older cars in general, from his description.

Re: Going under the hammer... today!
I tend to agree. I get the impression it was either an impulsive or speculative purchase and the new owner may then of realised It's perhaps beyond his abilities and/or finances, in which case I would imagine he's somewhat disappointed
