Re: My 68 saloon restoration /customization project.
So I finished up the engine and got it all in, car runs smooth as gravy sandwich.
This is how it looks at the moment.
Balanced 1293 with cam and carb
type 9 box and hydrolic clutch
disk breaks and servo
Lowered 2 clicks and 2.5" rear block.
Fiberglass front clip, doors, rear arches, boot lid and gearbox cover/floor.
All perspex Windows minus windscreen.
Banded moggi wheels 8" Rear (205) 5.5" front (145)
Keyless ignition and push button start
Remote pop doors
Full dyno matted minus the floor.
Next on the list is a dyno tune and then just to drive and enjoy. I'll be finishing up any bits of bodywork on the move and getting the car wrapped before the end of the year.
I'll be fitting a standard moggi interior into it when I can get my hands on some.
At some point I'll also be looking at a front anti roll bar, maybe fit some shocks or look at full modern suspension.
Then the rear end, hardened half shafts and a quaif diff.
No rush though, for now just having it back on the road is good enough for me.
Thanks for the several hundred views and big thanks to the 2 or 3 individuals that dropped a comment.

Re: My 68 saloon restoration /customization project.
JY = Plymouth registration. My great auntie bought a black, de-luxe, four-door saloon in Plymouth in 1957 - NJY 581, sadly now long gone to the scrappie. Then a trafalgar blue one EJY ****? in the mid-60's. I still remember the plastic seat protectors it had when she bought it. At that point the old, black Morris was sold to my parents......I guess it was that one that started it all for me

Re: My 68 saloon restoration /customization project.
I recall that the 'area code' for vehicle registration numbers (last two letters) used to be listed in the old AA Handbook at one time but, for those that are interested, here is a link to help identify where your car originated from http://nice-reg.co.uk/info/area-of-issu ... lates.html
These did change a bit at various times (e.g. JY for Plymouth later became the code for Exeter in around 1980) but I believe Minor production had stopped before there were many changes. It will be of interest to owners to see if their car has remained 'local' all its life or has travelled!

This site is useful for reg.no. history, up to the time when Local Vehicle Licencing Offices took over vehicle licencing responsibilities from local councils (circa 1974-ish). It gives a year-by-year breakdown of letter combinations issued. Handy for dating original 'dateless' or non-suffix letter plates.
