A stay was not fitted to the glove box door.
A stay can be fitted and there are several examples of post factory fitment on here which can be found using the search facility.

Some glove box doors on Australian models had stays fitted at the factory. They were nice two-part chrome on steel items.
I don't have access to photos now, but will be able to provide them in a week or so.

We had the same on UK cars Don but only for a short period - around 1959 to 1961 I think. After that BMC dropped the doors altogether and when one door re-appeared on the passenger side only, there was no longer a stay.....
It is called progress I believe :-?

Whilst the stay may have been fitted for a short time only I have to say that I have never ever seen a UK Morris Minor 1000 factory fitted glove box support stay on either the right or left glove box door and over the years I have seen a lot of Minors of various series.
The stay was fitted to the Wolseley 1500 & Riley 1.5 glove box doors and the larger BMC saloons.

My old '60 and my dads '60 both had the glovebox stays on the passenger side.
If i am not mistaken, i believe i retro fitted one to my '53 as i put a stereo in the glovebox. I think 🤔
My current '58 does not have anything and has a different glovebox door to the 1960 ones.

You may not have seen one Phil but the standard factory fitted glovebox stay mentioned is shown on page 64 of Ray Newell's "Original Morris Minor" book. It states that this was fitted from late 1959 and, along with the doors themselves, "disappeared again in 1961".
A fairly short life.
