chassis number - need infos because renewing

Post by Bela »

I'd searched the VIN at the bulkhead but didn't found it. There is only a plate with the car number screwed to the bulkhead.

Is there a difference beetween VIN, car number and chassis number for a 1965 Moggy?

I have to renew the VIN on the plate at the bulkhead because the German authorities don't accept a "/" e.g." M/A2......".

What's about the stamped chassis number on your chassis? Does it start with the coded signs or are there only the numbers? Is a picture available where the numbers are stamped during that period?

What's the body code..Z3488x or Z3605x?

Cowley saloons all "M/Axx"...
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

1965 is around the change point. Cars upto around then had the number stamped into the bulkhead as the picture shows in the above posting by Phil.
After that, the number was stamped into the RH front floor. Unfortunately the RH front floor has often been replaced by now because of rust! The prefix was NOT stamped into the bulkhead or floor, JUST the numbers, which will be 7 digits by that time.
"Car number", "Chassis number" and "VIN number" are all descriptions of the same thing. The "body number" is a different thing entirely.
