Refurbishing my gloveboxes

Post by cococola »

Today I decided to refurbish my glove boxes by lining them with acoustic carpet as they are tired looking as well as dropping white powder lining on everything that is in them.

Im really pleased with the finished result as the old ones looked tired and worn.
Its a cheap upgrade for the price of some acoustic carpet that I had and some spray glue. :)

That's a worthwhile improvement :) The price of new gloveboxes is crazy!

Prices of replacement glove boxes are so expensive for what they are and I was really happy with the refurb results of mine as well as the enjoyment of doing the job. :)

Nice idea - might do that to mine, which have also been disintegrating for years.

I also have that book, puchased years ago, probably from some autojumble! 8)

The only thing I'd do differently is to use a light cream coloured carpet so that it looks brighter. The dark colour does tend to suck the light in. I prefer to be able to see what's in the glovebox when I'm looking for something. Other than that, a nice job.

Someone on here did the same with a cream flick sticky back plastic - shades of blue peter- they looked just like new ones for a fraction of the cost of new and gave some strength back to tired pressed card.

Still not back in the car, so can't report on their long term durability. CC's carpet method looks pretty good too.

How did you attach them back in? My glove boxes are a little lose inside and wander around...!!

I just used the existing screw holes an rescrewed the glove boxes to the metal frame, you may need to poke the hoes on the new lining to fit.

I recovered the glove box on my MG TD over the weekend. I used self adhesive 1mm felt which is readily available by the metre in all sorts of colours on "fleabay". I chose the wine red to match the colour of the car. It turned out quite nice.
