Washer bottle problem

Hi I wonder if someone can advise me please.
I decided to buy a new washer bottle recently and when
I went to remove the pipe that sits in the old bottle
There was a black valve in the pipe .
When I tried to remove it it broke into
Several pieces including a spring.
I have bought a new one but it is unclear
Which end goes in the bottle and which end goes in
The pipe.
Hope someone can help

Try sucking and blowing through the valve. If you can suck through - that side of the valve fits into the washer supply pipe exiting the washer bottle If you cannot suck through that side of the valve just drops down into the washer bottle fluid.

The valve is there to stop drain down of the washer system. Whether you have a manual pump or electric pump it is important that the valve is in place.

To stop the suction pipe curling up in the washer bottle I would recommend fitting a heavy stainless steel nut just above the valve with the pipe going through the nut.

Ive worked out which end is which now.
The problem that I have now come across is
That it is too big for the end of the pipe
When you say “drain down of the washer system “
What do you mean exactly.
I think the person who had the car before me
Has used a pipe from another car maybe.
The pipe is a lot smaller certainly much too small
For that to go in.

Without the one-way valve in the bottle/reservoir, the washer fluid in the pipes will always drop to the level in the bottle. With the valve there, it should remain in the pipework, primed for the next use.

Washer piping should be a fairly standard bore.
It needs to be a good fit and in the current temperatures you might just find that the plastic pipe is too firm to fit to the valve. Stick the end in a cup of hot water for a minute or so the soften it.

I’m going to try warming the pipe end tomorrow to see if

A typical valve for a period car is something like this. it serves as the one-way valve, hose end weight and sometimes includes a filter mesh too.

Just in case you didn’t see the outcome I did as suggested
And put the end of the pipe in hot water, and after a bit of work
The valve went in and I managed to get the washer bottle to
Spray again.Job done thank you all.
