Timing?
Morning all, I’ve set the timing up on my 1098 statically to tdc so I’m presuming that to get it running at its best I’m going to need to make slight adjustments to the distributor? I guess I probably need to retard it a little as it should be set to approx 5 btdc, is that correct? What way do I turn the distributor to retard ? Anti-clockwise? Thanks

Re: Timing?
Btdc is before top dead centre, so the timing needs to be advanced, not retarded. Simply looking at the points when just opening will show you which way a distributor needs to be rotated.

Re: Timing?
With the distributor cap removed, ease the engine over with the starting handle and note which way the gubbins in the dizzy turns. To retard the ignition (but see reply above first) the distributor body will need turning in the same direction; to advance it, turn it the other way.
