Door Fit
I really need to slam my passenger side door to shut it
I’ve had a play with what can adjust to no avail
If I remove the door seal it’s closes fine and sits well in the gap
Are all the seals the same thickness ?

Re: Door Fit
No. They are not. Some specialists offer a choice and some trim suppliers are worth exploring too.

Re: Door Fit
I had the same problem so I replaced mine with this, it is dead easy to fit and works very well.

Re: Door Fit
I had similar problems with my new seals and found out at the time one of the suppliers did a soft version.
Solved the problems although to fine tune the way it contacted the door I did 'tweak' the seals flange so it contacted similar all round.

Re: Door Fit
You sometimes have to "tweak" the metal lip a bit in places to get the correct fit, someone else might have already been messing with it prior to you.

Re: Door Fit
I’ve discovered the window frame is the problem
Is there any form of adjustment I can do other than perhaps a little manipulation?

Re: Door Fit
Yes, if you slacken the fixing bolts - particularly the lower ones - there is a little adjustment to the frame assembly both "in and out" and "fore and aft". Once you have found the best fit, simply tighten up the fixings again.

Re: Door Fit
I have used up all the adjustment and the frame is still too close to the top of the door aperture
I estimate by about a 1/4 “
What’s the best way to resolve this ?
Thanks

Re: Door Fit
If you've " adjusted" the bottom hinge in , try " adjusting" the top hinge out ...

Re: Door Fit
It is sometimes possible to get some adjustment by applying pressure to cause flexing in the A post and door front edge. For a high door press the rear top of the frame downwards, for a low door a jack can be used under the base.
This depends on the strength of the parts. If they are a bit rusty they will flex relatively easily, if they have been welded up with hefty plates it may be more difficult.

Re: Door Fit
The door itself fits in the aperture reasonable well
Adjustment of the door hinges would effect this and I didn’t really want to do that
It’s the window frame that’s the problem
When closing the passenger door the top right hand corner of the window frame touches the door seal lip
I will get some pics
I’ve loosened the two adjustment bolts and the bolt they pivot on to the max but it still leans inwards too much
What I would like to do is place a block of wood in the top corner of the door jam and push the door to bend/lever the window frame into the right position but that seems a tad agricultural
As I said I will try and get some pics
Thanks

Re: Door Fit
What I would like to do is give the door a big push with this in the door but I’m guessing there is a more subtle approach in someone’s experience locker

Re: Door Fit
looking at the rear door gap and the front gap in last photo, looks to me that the door is too far back close fit ar rear but wide at front, unless it's the photo angle. But yes give the door a push it may just do it
Re: Door Fit
Yes I think the curve of the door, at the front, gives that impression but the gap there will appear to increase as the door starts to open.

Re: Door Fit
As the car seems to be a 2door saloon with stainless steel window frames (a combination not available on UK cars when new) it would seem that your car has been altered a bit , like so many have. It shouldn't make any real difference but it might explain why you don't have a perfect fit. It could also be that the whole door is from another car? This often leads to poor door fit - as can rust in the pillar or previous repairs poorly done? All sorts of reasons for poor door fit and very difficult to guess at the reason over the internet. There is quite a bit of adjustment available at the hinges - and even different hinge thicknesses, as well as factory fitted shims on some cars. It isn't an easy job to achieve good door alignment on some cars.
Keep trying and good luck.
