Traveller Rear Window sliding channels

I am in the process of replacing all the sliding window channels in my Traveller. Windows are out and have cleaned out the drain holes in the lower wood sections. Is it necessary/advisable to make corresponding holes in the new lower channels before fixing?

Yes, the water needs to flow freely into the channels within the wood.

The holes in the glass channels don't need to correspond particularly closely with the timber channel drain holes.

One point I recently found important when trying to stop leakage into the rear foot wells was sealing the front end of the timber channels where they meet the B post. If these aren't effectively blocked water can flow into a cavity in the joint and find its way out towards the inside face of the B post. At least they did in mine which has had its wood replaced. Made worse by me parking with the front downhill in the rain!
