Now you are into serious serious modifications. This is all getting to be slightly out of focus!

A maximum of around 400bhp, or so I've read. Presumably for about 20 minutes before the engine goes boom, but what a 20 minutes...

I think it's about £8k for the whole lot, engine and all.

What about something similar for the Minor? Wind the power back a bit - 300bhp ought to be adequate.
That'll be zcars. They also do a slightly more sensible VTEC Mini and I think are going to put do a VTEC in the back if they haven't already.

Don't see why - it's not going to be a Kit Car. As long as the V5 is correct with engine number/capacity etc - MOT should be fine. But - getting insurance could be another story!

You'd have to look at the 'points' system for modified cars to see if it needs an SVA or not. That's assuming you tell the DVLA about the extent of the modifications...

I doubt a Minor would pass an SVA without some modifications, due sharp edges, non-collapsible steering column, etc.

Somebody has already done this,
Willie is quite right there was one for sale via the North London Branch a few years ago fitted with 1100-1300 running gear and a flip front.

That's a lot of work for 1100/1300 engine! I drove a mini 1.3i this afternoon, not exactly earth shattering performance, had a cool opening roof though:)

As standard I think the 1.3i Coopers had a massive 63 or so hp..

Binning the injection and cat and sticking on a proper carb and better exhaust will see that rise a fair amount - The MG metro was putting out 10hp more a decade earlier, by not having silly black boxes and downdraught hateful inlet systems.

It should be pretty easy to get a FWD unit in a Minor, the only problems I can see are height for the strut top and width. The Minor is a narrow car compared to most modern vehicles.

Theres so many engines to choose from its a basic fabrication job to mount the subframe.

Then you would have to have it emissions tested at MOT time (playing devils advocate)

No - the emissions test goes on the age of the vehicle - OR the age of the engine if it's an (ahemm) 'old' engine in a newish car. So - 'old' engine in a recent Mini gets by with 'visual only' emissions test, and it's amazing how many old engine (numbers) there are out there. Likewise - my 'old' Mini (1970 Reg No - but new bodyshell) can have the last of the Injection engines fitted (but why would I want to!!) - and yet still would have 'visual only' emissions test and no need for a Cat either.

I've already built several front wheel drive diesel minors, and a fuel injected mid engined. https://youtu.be/_u_mXhjg3-g

Did you have any issues keeping historic vehicle status.

Also just noticed I made a comment to this thread.... 16 years ago!
