Possibly unwise to paint the piping as the paint can crack. Attaching the wing loosely will allow paint to get into the joint area ready for piping after painting.

You shouldn't have to remove the door just to repair or replace the inner wing - or are you thinking of doing a more major repair?
On my Minor saloon I left the doors in place when I carried out the inner wing and floor repairs. That way I was always able to check the door gaps.
The doors are heavy and hard to remove and replace on your own.
Obviously you'd have to remove the doors if you have to do much work on the pillar, but we can't see that area
