Windscreen Sealing

Post by Rhodrich »

In anything more than drizzle, the corners of the windscreens on my '52 leak considerably. The seal is cracked, but not dire.

Given the horrendous job replacing the seal would be, and the poor quality of replacements, I'm going to try and seal it. Does anyone here have any recommended product which would do the job? I think the leak is in the channel where the glass meets the seal, rather than water getting round the seal to body lip.

Thanks

A PU (polyurethane) adhesive should work ok.
There's lots of different brands available. Normally its supplied in a mastic style tube. So you will need a mastic gun.
Do not use a silicone it won't work.

I used a tube of MANNOL WINDSCREEN SEALANT, currently about £12 for a 310ml tube on ebay.

I had a leak somewhere along the edge of my '55 windscreen, leaving a puddle on the passenger's rubber floor mat.
I put a bead of this all around it and no problems since. I just looked up when I brought it and it was 5 years ago, Summer 2019.

Great stuff - thank you both. I'll try the Mannol Windscreen sealant - will let you know how I get on.
