Re: Newbie, Fiat TC & Volumex HFO 501 NEW BUILD 2018
As they say, today was a good day, dry assemble my engine, looking good, try fitted sump pan, no issues, however my water pump pulley does not fit! wrong alignment, as mentioned by Steve (Wal) he had to cut n shut he's, looks like i might need to that option. added some engine internal, notice GC tags on conrods from Cunningham and Pistons from JE Pistons.

Re: Newbie, Fiat TC & Volumex HFO 501 NEW BUILD 2018
Question:
how do I keep the block end faces (that are raw) looking good, the only option I feel is clear lacquer, or am I ,missing something?
appreciate some knowledgeable input!
Also about to swap out, from Aux pulley, tensioner base and spring and bolt thingy for yellow pass finished item, all this work and i don't want it looking rubbish in 6 months!
Back in shop tomorrow, doing some cylinder head work for a buddy, and getting stuff prepped for the powder coaters, again!
need to pickup bright work from the platers, and some more cut logs, for the stove, want the shop warm!

Re: Newbie, Fiat TC & Volumex HFO 501 NEW BUILD 2018
Update:
trial fit for oil pickup pipe and oil pump, all OK, just need longer socket cap on one bolt setting for the pump.
Test the bolts setup for the sump pan, for some reason the gasket seems to bend, going to try and use the betaboyz sump gasket.
Did a first stab at the Omex sensor bracket, need to get the proper sensor, the Beta one is used, and need to machine the back of the wheel to hold the sensor, all good so far.
Machined the oil take off bracket, need to get the right taps.
Then a bit of practice head work, oil and water galley mods done, shaping of the chamber done, final work on the porting match to the exhaust and inlet, happy with the results so far.

Re: Newbie, Fiat TC & Volumex HFO 501 NEW BUILD 2018
Then head is off to machine shop, 3 angle valve seat cut, valve blend, new Trojan valve guides, new inlet trojan valve seats, GC valve modifications 7mm shank and blend to inlet, and 12 mm radius to exhaust, 0.05 head skim , chamber cc check and a final HT wash, then build up with new inlet valves and recon springs, washers and caps.
BTW trojan is a material made by Columbia Metals, they own the IPR and sell to machine shops, highly recommended for any race/fast road use and worth the cost too.

Re: Newbie, Fiat TC & Volumex HFO 501 NEW BUILD 2018
Thank god for the furlough, in the workshop yesterday waiting for my new tool chest, which sadly never arrived!.
Got on with another two coats on the other engine side, pushed near the stove to keep nice and warm.
Some head porting,, and rebuilt my spare Abarth remote shifter for the Fiat 5 speed gearbox, aqua blast, bead blast internal and new grease and stainless bolts throughout, happy with the results, little unsure of the fixing for the Quaife style shifter.
Might make my own, does not look or work great

Re: Newbie, Fiat TC & Volumex HFO 501 NEW BUILD 2018
This weekend was very good indeed, not only did i throw loads of crap out the workshop and do a general tidy up, i got my engine on its stand. A very significant thing, because next time it comes off the stand, it will be in the car!
Also my garage share buddy turned up too, very please to see him looking fit and well and keen to start/complete his projects too.
Given both of us something to aim for, which as always is a good thing.
some images of engine on stand, looking hansome

Thanks Phil, spring is in the air, feels like there's a little momentum and things all round are better, been a tough time for all.

A few updates: water head thermostat and modd/d water outlet, changes to bright work, either black silver or yellow phosphate. And final setup up of my refurb stage 2 head, off to machine shop for valve angle and valve mods, including new Trojan guides.
