Bonnet release (if you haven't got the cable connected)

Probably an old one this, but when putting the front panel back on, after assembly I forgot to reconnect the release cable (Doh!), however, after a fair amount of head scratching I found that with a long stout screwdriver and a light hammer I could get through the grille and up to the mechanism, a sharp tap released the bonnet in no time.

Of course the real trick is not to get yourself in that position in the first place.

All the ones I have ever seen have a rigid bar (including my 3).

I've also used this tip in the past - my 61 4 door had no splitpin to keep the bar in the lever. Needless to say it jumps out on it's own!
And needless to say it was fixed ASAP.

Cable????

well if you make the definition of cable include a single strand that's quite thick...

Ok, OK, so its not a cable, but a rigid bar, somehow typing rigid bar didnt seem quite right. You all knew what I meant.

Well last night confirmed my battery was US and guess what on closing the bonnet there was a funny noise

, so on trying to re-open I find the pull lever is nice and loose so it looks like mine has come adrift thank god it didnt happen when i took it for the Mot.
So something else to do at the weekend

I've know people disconnect that (and/or 'loose' the boot key) for the MOT ;-).

Not a problem where I had mine done Ray they did not even try to look in the boot.

Yes but I doubt your inner arches were made of fibreglass anyway ;-)

They should go in the boot for a general structure check, to check the petrol tank filler pipe, the tank itself and to check the spare.
Many places ignore the spare, but you can just take it out before the MOT if it is unfit (quite a silly rule!).

Correct my inner arches are metal, but the garage is a proper rough diamond type of place and quite realistic, the tester said my headlamps were a bit out of alignment and he had adjusted them and he did not charge for it, so I will stick with them in future and not go to the place I went to last weekend where I had the Vin plate escapde, I only went there because through the CSMA they had a special offer on MOT`s £27 instead of £40 they are now still at least with the latest increase in fee you get a free reminder sticker

Well opened mine sunday and guess what no split pin so I cleaned the end up and no hole for one, looking around I found the retainer on the boxing plate it was one of those circular spring clip types, well as my car is a 65 I wondered when they changed as my 69 Traveller is with a split pin but Rays is a 61 with a split pin so is mine just an odd one, and no the end has not broken off it looks like its always been like it.
