Automatic Moggy
Hi All,
My wife has been asking me to build her a modified auto saloon, she only has a auto license and has no plans of taking a manual test.
Any suggestions on what running gear I could use would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Keith

Re: Automatic Moggy
'Chris Edgar' on here has an automatic minor. i believe it has a Borg Warner box on a marina engine.
They did make some automatic marinas, so the running gear could be fitted from one of those, but i believe they didn't make that many automatic 1300's (a-series = easiest swap) and there are even less still about!
Chris Edgar didn't do the conversion himself if i recall, so i don't know how much he can help you.
use the 'search' box at the top to look up about auto minors, you should find previous threads on the subject.

Would the auto from a sierra bolt on instead of a standard type 9? dont see why not? Especially if your fitting a zetec or crossflow engine.

Re: Automatic Moggy
Hi Alex' n 'ane,
I do have using a Zetec in mind but am fishing for other food for thought. The sierra gearbox might work so will keep that in mind.
I am not looking to chase 0-60 times but just want to build a reliable modern day moggy, although the misses might have other ideas about chasing 0-6. LOL
Cheers

the sierra auto box looks cheap.. not sure that it will fit though, the bell housing looks very large and it looks a bit wide.

Re: Automatic Moggy
Thanks for the link Charlie., it does look very large.
Maybe someone will be able to suggest an auto box and axle to mate up to a zetec.
Cheers

Re: Automatic Moggy
I think that gearbox will we your best bet, ask on some of the ford escort forums and the like http://www.turbosport.co.uk/forumdispla ... tallations if that gearbox will mate up, but it kinda should, the zetec has the same bolt pattern as the pinto. Rear axle wise you will be looking for a mk2 escort rear axle, and probably a custom prop due to the length, but these aren't much more than a normal type 9- escort one.

Re: Automatic Moggy
If it was me, that would make the perfect excuse to pick up a Rover V8 Minor with autobox...
If you're after a project, they come up on ebay many times a year ;-)

Re: Automatic Moggy
Saw a minor advertised in minor matters and thought of you:
1970 Cream convertible. Navy hood, leather interior. Automatic Triump 1500cc. Disc Brakes, low mileage.
MOT August. Awarded plaque 'Best Modified' at Kent Hop. Driver deceased. £5,000 ono. Tel 01six34 38eight747 (Kent)
May not be your cup of tea, but could be cheaper than doing the work yourself.
