Boot lid.

Post by viewsonic1 »

I am a new MM owner in fact after many years, I have finally got my first (and probably last) Classic Car. Short question, repair panel in steel,or Glass Fibre boot lid complete? Which do I go for?

Depends how good your metalwork skills are! The steel repair panels are not the best of fits!

Tell me about it - I had to do some serious fettling.

Ok here's another related question. I have seen many bootlids that stand of the bodywork, particularly the lower half. Is there any easy way to fix that.

Mine sticks out and I haven't even fitted the new rubber seal yet! Am I right in thinking that many bootlids seem to particularly stick out on the lower RH side and if so why?

Probably twisted from being pulled on when open.
Or they may just take on a twist from only being supported on one side.

Thanks to all who have replied to my posting. But back to my original question, do I get my steel boot lid repaired or is a glass fibre panel adequate as a replacement? Will it paint up ok? Will it look as good as a steel lid?

I believe that ESM now press a complete new steel boot lid, should be better than GRP.
