taking a step back, it's starting to get there... oh so very slowly![frame]

tackling the floor on the other side now, with the join under the crossmember. Wanted to get the welding in the tunnel done before i flip it over, so as to avoid any upside down welding[frame]
[/frame]
Had to chop the far end iff the spring hanger to gain access to the floor. Will weld it back in later.[frame]

Not sure what buffoon thought this was an adequate repair:[frame]

cross member welding was interupted, firstly, by running out of gas, then it transpiring that the welder was leaking gas from the handle. I'm taking it back under warranty this afternoon. Please, therefore, forgive this pigeon-poo:
now cut out and replaced;[frame]

it's slowly starting to go in the right direction ;)
yes, i did drill the spot welds out. I bought (after the hospital incident) a special spot weld drill bit which works well. took some mearuements just to be sure, and then slotted the new section back into the remaining chassis leg (it was only the front half which i replaced. the engine mounting holes served to line it all up nicely and hold it in place while i spot welded it back along its length. i also ran a line of tack welds along the outside edge for good measure.

Impressed!
I look forward to seeing it at the National, next year??
You do realize that this will give you a Tourer, a 2 Door and a Traveller............
Leaving just a four door needed to complete the set...... (you know you want one!)
Best wishes,
Mike.

sorry about the minimal posts on this thread recently; I've been uploading all the pics directly to my restoration thread on facebook.
If you would like to read about the project, get yourself a copy of the December issue of Practical Classics Magazine, where it features as a 7 page readers restoration article.
It will also be on the young members' stand at the nec mid november.

Hi Matt,
I've got my Practical Classics and read your article - very interesting and well done!
However I'm sure it's more detailed in your facebook article, can you attach a link to it on here?
Best wishes,
Mike.
