New Member - Hello from Chippenham!

Hey everyone!

I’m Luke, I live in Chippenham (Wiltshire), and I’ve recently becoming the proud owner of a 1955 OEW Morris Minor Saloon:

Image

I think I’ve been on this forum before, as I used to own a 1967 Morris Traveller, which I restored. Sadly I sold the Traveller back in 2015, along with my Civic, to buy a DeLorean DMC-12….. but I had the Moggy bug!

Welcoming my splitty to the family two weeks ago I have already tackled a number of tasks: replacing all exterior light fitments, taking back repairing and repainting the boot, professionally repairing the electrical systems in the boot (I was an electrical wiring specialist for three years), installing an in keeping radio (with blue tooth and Aux etc.), repairing the window winder mech, oil change, ignition service, stainless OEM style exhaust, seatbelts fitted (by C.W)

My next tasks are to: repair the passenger side door lock (thread elsewhere), replace the front seats with Newton Comercial high back seats, add a hidden electric valve to the heater matrix, replace the door tops with painted stainless, sound proof and restore the interior floor panels, re-trim the carpets, replace the front and rear bumpers (they are a little flaky)

Luckily for me, the floorpan was entirely rebuilt in 2009 (receipts came with the car etc), with minimal welding work since, so I don’t need to lay on the floor as much with this one. The engine was also allegedly rebuilt (no paperwork) when it was swapped for the 1098 currently fitted…. Which I think I believe after doing 300 miles last weekend in the ol’ girl as she ran well. One flaw is that it doesn’t like sitting in second for long (it throws out). Might be that it’s an earlier gearbox (haven’t checked yet….it’s on the never ending list)

I’m actually looking at buying a second engine and gearbox to rebuild this summer just for a bit of fun so the gearbox can be swapped along with this.

Any who, that’s a brief line up of what I’ve been up to so far, and hope to do. I look forward to meeting you all at a big meet sometime soon!

Luke

Hi Luke. Nice to have another member fairly local to me. I live in Trowbridge.
Hope to meet you at an event or too this year.
Good luck with all the jobs you gave planned!

Welcome Luke. I have the same problem with 2nd in my 1275 Midget - I'm told it's a worn synchromesh, but i'm sure someone on here will know better than me. :D

I'm not far from you near Radstock, it appears there may be quite a few of us around about the North Somerset / Wiltshire area, there's a West Wilts branch on the website " Meetings: 1st Friday 8.00pm, The Old Bear, Staverton but please phone beforehand to confirm " but no phone number. Does anyone know if this branch is active?

I'm posting this on behalf of Helen Cosslett who for some unknown internet/messageboard reason can't get access with her usual details.
Helen says :
"Hello to Luke from Chippenham. There are two branches in the area, the North Wilts that meets in Swindon, details in the magazine, and the West Wilts. The West Wilts are trying to regenerate and revive the branch but need members to do it. Meetings are now 1st Monday of the month at the Old Bear in Staverton. You can check out West Wilts on facebook, or ring Pete 012225783195 for details."

I’m quite happy that I appear to have found a gem. When I bought my last one I hadn’t a clue about where to look for rust. This time I was a lot more cautious and appear to have found quite a gem. Planning is well underway as well. I’ve been rather busy over the last week restoring the heater matrix with modern fans, installing an electricitonic solenoid, installing the heater.... etc. Always busy :D

I hope to meet you soon, being so close it’ll be nice to know others local. And thank you, luck is needed quite a lot when your buying parts from eBay. I got sent 50cm of tube today with a sticker on it saying it was 3m.... not quite what I was hoping for.

I also have a problem with the Delorean going down into second as well.... why always second? So strange. Looks like we have a phone number below now. Maybe we should arrange to all pop along at once?

Thanks Brian! I'm pretty happy with the ol' gal.

Flux Capacitor.... well I might already have it for the DeLorean haha. I am also an avid prop/set maker hobbyist, and am working on a full kit to clip onto the DeLorean at weekends (and take off in the week). I attend science fiction events for free, with the DeLorean on display, dressed as Doc or Marty. I tend to use the events to raise money for Parkinson's UK after my Grandfather suffered for it for a number a years etc.

Could have done with you last weekend for a sixties/seventies themed Parkinson's fundraising event - the DeLorean might have been a bit more dramatic than our flared trousers! As it's World Parkinson's Day today, well done for helping a brilliant cause!

That’s fantastic.

It’s nice that the DeLorian mod is clip on so as not to affect the car. I’ve got a few upgrades on Jodie, but they are all reversible so she could easily be returned to factory original in future.

Would love to see some pics of you and the DeLorian in costume.
