Rear 1/4 repair panel

Just after some tips.

Just a little worried that the finished panel will appear distorted, the existing curved gently outwards, the repair panel curves inwards. I have slightly bent the new to match the old but am worried about how much I will have to hide the join. Do I have to carefully tap it in after welding, or just nearly grind all the weld back and rely on the weld burning in quite deep and holding?

My other vehicles are commercial and dont need to look pretty!

Also the door is hanging too far back, How can it be moved forward, there is some play in the hinges but not a lot!

ello mate, i had the same problem with q/panel, in the end i pushed it out from inside to meet up with existing, and it looks pretty good allthough ive yet to fill /finish it, it looks like a new sill boxing plate ,so probable cause of door too far back is all the welding in A post/bottom of hinge pillar has distorted/twisted the pillar, i had this ,had to cut welds along hinge pillar cover plate where it meets flich panel, jack it out with a small acroprop between B post and h-pillar, with the door on, tack weld ,try gap,when ok,weld up in short runs to avoid further misery,steve

Thanks for that, I dont think that the pillars have been welded though.

Before I weld I will grind back the door edge as much as I dare (not the edge of the door, the quarter panel being overlapped you know what I mean!) :)

Strange if you have not welded either the A or B pillar that the
door is too far back. if the front vertical gap tween the door and
the front wing is 'normal' then you are in a pickle. if the front gap is
too large then you may be lucky and find that the hinges have
had spacers fitted which can be removed to allow the door to move
forward?

I think that the hinges will probably adjust enough. Can the back of the hinge be ground down a few mm or will this cause other problems.

Im really impressed with how easy the 1/4 panels are to fit, Once done they make the side of the car look just right. I have seen just too many 2 doors where you cannot help but have your eyes drawn to the odd shape panel that had been bodged.
