Hi,
See attached picture, I myself have only ever seen 'MOWOG' on the side cover, did the BMC logo appear on any Morris Minor gearboxes?
Best wishes,
Mike.

Well the numbering is different, but that is the same illustration as appears in Section FF of my manual, with the BMC Rosette .

So was it just some form of advertising or PR exercise then I wonder?
Best wishes,
Mike.

PS: LOTUS is just your fantasy sequence isn't it................ :D

Under the main topic page of 'Restorations' I have just started to record my restoration of an early Series II saloon.

I asked yesterday if anyone else had seen this type of gearbox cover on any Series II as I certainly hadn't.

Is it a rare thing?

Now that I have started to clean down the externals of my engine I have found that the same 'BMC' format is cast into the block.

Again. I've never seen that before.

I suspect politics, business politics that is. With the recent creation of BMC some higher up wanted the new logo to be everywhere to promote the new organization, internally as well as to the public. Either one of the dies or the first die had the logo engraved. On the other had the casting house must have been part of the Nuffield side since the rest of the dies got MOWOG cast into basically Austin designed components so the MOWOG guys didn't want to lose there identity. US vs THEM internal politics.

Looks like MOWOG won the internal political battle in this case then.
Only for the entire organisation (including Triumph, Rover, Wolseley, Jaguar etc.) to loose out later, in the suicide note for the British car industry that was the British Leyland empire..............
Best wishes,
Mike.
