Canister oil filter kit probs

Hi, anyone else had probs with fitting the conversion from old oil filter to the new spin on ones?
I've just fitted one and got oil pouring from where the new casting meets the engine when I start up. I've nipped up the nuts, no joy.
The casting doesn't look very generous where it fits over the hole into the engine, I've cleaned both mating surfaces and checked for old gaskets.
Any help, don't tell me, put the original back on!?!

It may be that the nuts are bottoming out before the casting is clamped to the block.
Lightly grease the gasket before fitting as it helps the gasket to seal and keeps the gasket supple leading to a longer life for the gasket.

Thanks, so if I try a couple of extra washers and see if it snugs up. It's getting dark and nippy out there so will try again on the morrow!

I had the same issue and lost a load of oil on first start up  . I found that the gasket supplied was a bit light on material and didn't line up properly. I made my own with a bit more meat on the mating surfaces and all was well - except for the pool of oil on the floor

If you want to fit a screw on filter housing the best screw on filter heads were fitted to the MG Midget and MG Metro turbo. They are stronger, have much more metal in their construction and have a much better gasket.

That looks like a much better part. I replaced the original today ,between the hail showers!
I needed the van back on the road, but will look out for one of the better housings for the next oil change.
