Air Filter
I have just adjusted my carburettor tick over as thengine was running too rich and fast. And I put in a new airfilter at the same time the old one I took out was completely black see photo. Is it possible to clean an air filter or should I just throw it away?

Re: Air Filter
Is your exhaust blowing at the manifold joint? That black soot might be coming from that joint if it is leaking, and being sucked into the air intake

Re: Air Filter
That air filter was likely more than dirty enough to cause a rich mixture on its own.

Re: Air Filter
They're paper disposable, nothing to even try and clean. The minute particles will permeate into the paper and block it internally.

Re: Air Filter
As suggested above there is a high chance of a manifold leak. Often easier to spot on start up while looking under the bonnet
Re: Air Filter
Hi there
Filters are not expensive and therefore disposable items. Looking at the one shown it looks as though it has been in the car for quite a while. With it being so dirty then the chances are that this is causing your engine to run rich. I would change this, run the car and check colour of spark plugs ( brown colour)
