How did this happen!

Not on a Minor but on what was my daily runner. I jumped in the vehicle a couple of days ago after about a month not being used and found the clutch pedal down to the floor. No fluid loss and reservoir ok. I tried to pull it back with my foot with no luck. I used more effort by hand and it popped back into position. All seems ok now. I’d be interested to know how this happened, there always been a reasonable pressure needed to press the pedal so how did it manage to operate on its own, and stay down !! :o

Air in the system and recent sub-zero temperatures?

Thanks for reply, No air, hasn’t needed pumping to get a pedal, car kept in garage, so reasonably protected from cold.

I have had a similar problem a few times with my modern VW. Clutch hydraulics in that case. Now cured with new master and slave cylinders.

Thanks, for, response. Well, mine is back to as it was now. So assuming those items are ok. It’s just a mystery as to how the pedal got to the floor unaided.

Had the same issue on an Audi A3 years ago, it was still under warranty. The AA/ RAC came out (part of warranty) and rather than call out a recovery truck he pulled the pedal back up to let me drive it and followed me to the garage. He'd seen it a few times on VW Golfs where the clutch cylinder starts to fail and it was replaced, the gear change hadn't been quite right the day before.

Yes same thing. Was an issue with Volvo's and other makes that share the same master cylinder. We put a stop on the pedal so it wouldn't go all the way to the floor. Once the car had some miles on it my dad removed the stop. It's been fine ever since. Hopefully it stays working for you.
