Vacuum advance numbers

Post by GavinL »

I'm in the process of repairing a couple of vacuum advance units off Morris Minors ( replacing failed diaphragms), and I'm curious to know what the numbers relate to, eg 5/18/3 and 5/17/10.

I've compared the internal springs in the vacuum units which I assume have different compression rates, although there aren't any obvious markings or differences. I've measured the length of the mandrel the spring is mounted on and they are different lengths which I assume limits the advance. Do either or both of these relate to the numbers?
