Re: Rear View Mirror. Replacements that fit

For anybody with this issue, I made an enquiry with Minispares. Their mirrors (as in the first post in this thread) use the same ball joint fixing of the head unit to the stem. The stem bracket is different to the Minor one. If your mirror is no longer serviceable, swapping to one of those head units and keeping the original Minor stem would be an option. The Minispares mirror head may be smaller than the Minor mirror head depending on exactly what was originally fitted. Mine was 7.25" wide Wingard. The Minispares is 6" but otherwise identical.

The mirror arrived from Minispares (part 24A2110)

The stem is the same design as the Minor one but slightly longer. I think the mounting bracket is different although I have not investigated as I do not need the stem.

The new mirror is marked "Wingard" and is 6" wide rather than my original which is 7.25"

New mirror fits directly to the old stem. I think my old mirror was actually grey now I see a new white one. My old mirror was faded by the sun.

Seems fine to me!

What is the original mirror set up ? mines 62 and has no sucker to screen, also the mirror glass does not have a surround it's slid directly into clips

That Wingard mirror with the sucker is original to my car (1969) and I have seen many other cars with it but I do not know the history of mirror set ups in the Minor.

Each of your cars have the correct mirror for the age of car. Many changes to specification were made during the long production run. The plain black mirror was fitted to earlier cars upto 1964 when the dashboard was resigned and the plastic "safety mirror" introduced along with the soft crushable sunvisors in October of that year.

Thanks for the info, I suppose it's no different today with yearly updates and spec changes.
I think it makes them interesting with all the differences over the long production run.
Also unless your looking for originality you can pick and mix your favourites to an extent.

Hi!
I think I have an original mirror.
It’s stamped WINGARD, Made in England, Pat No 909769.

I’m brand new here so not sure what or how to send pix, etc.
Let me know…

For those still wondering about the Interior Mirror, there were 4 examples in the AKD 3542, just for the Minor 1000... although one of them was only for France :-?
