A hole in the gearbox :(

Post by lestraveller »

Rescued by the AA for the first time ever. They They came in 30 minutes.
A piece flew off from the pressure plate and made a hole in the gearbox casing. The broken piece rested in the starter casing. So the starter couldn't extend to reach the flywheel to start.
After removing the GBox I thought I did a super job on repairing the hole.
Bought and replaced clutch/ pressure plate and thrust bearing.
Gear box back on feeling like a clever Trevor!
Everything back in its place turned the key and knock knock knock fxxin knock ! Oh dear the bolt head holding my repair plate must be catching the p plate on rotation. MY HEART SANK. !
Had to take the whole thing out again. No obvious damage thank goodness. I had over complicated my gBox hole repair. So this time I just covered the hole from the outer side with a good piece of rubber and glue.
All back together again. Today and all hunky dory. !
I as it is said many times. At first you don't succeed try try try again !
I removed the gear box cover the second time from the inside of the car and it was so much easier.

That's some hole. Clever fix too. I love this sort of thinking, well done.

Well done for your perseverance! A good result. Quite an unusual failure too.

Thankyou for that.
I need some 3 in 1 oil, aching all over.

(I was sulking for only about twenty minutes when I realised I needed to get the gear box back out again ! But got over it and got on with it. )
