Level adjustment of the black float that superseded the white float.
The white nylon SU float (AUD9202) for the later HS2 was superseded by a black float (WZX1304). As the volume of the black float is smaller and its top is different the 3.2 mm drill bit level adjustment trick does not apply. I would like to check the fuel level, and I read at sucarb.co.uk that it should be 9.5 mm below the bridge? Not easy to check. Any ideas please.

I fitted one of the black “unsinkable” stay-up floats a while back. Do you have the instructions? I have them somewhere. I used a drill bit as the correct size of metal rod for the adjustment.

Stephen if you have instructions for the black float they are very welcome.

Re: Level adjustment of the black float that superseded the white float.
Unfortunately I cannot find the instructions. I left them in the kitchen for months and they have disappeared.
As far as I can remember, the adjustment is done in a similar way to the earlier floats. You hold the float bowl lid upside down and place a metal rod in between the float and the lid. Adjustment is done by bending the metal arm on the float near to where it attaches in middle of the float.
According to the SU technical manual (which does not mention this type of float), the fuel level in the float bowl is not critical so as long as it is not way too low or likely to overflow it should be OK.
I am sure Burlen Fuel Systems could supply you with the instructions. In fact I am going to e-mail them now as I have lost my instructions!
For anybody wondering what we are talking about, this is the type of float:

These floats are superseded by the black float with a different volume.

I found this which explains a bit of the history of the newer float and the adjustment:

Interesting read. I suppose it does not explain setting of the black float.svenedin wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2024 5:04 pm I found this which explains a bit of the history of the newer float and the adjustment:

Yes it does explain the setting of the black float. 1/8" to 3/16" gap (3.2 to 4.7mm) with the float arm resting on the needle plunger but not depressing it. Has the delrin needle the same length as a steel one that you know. Never saw them for sale?

Ow, see now that that is probably the steel needle with the black polymere tip I suppose that answers my question. Many thanks Stephen!

OK. Is per your previous picture I assumed it was measured between the lever and lid. When delivered new and measured there it is about 1/8" as per photo so ha correct, I thought
However with the Burlen instructions you posted I assume it should be measured between the lid and the outer edge of the top of the float, which means I should bend the new float's lever, a lot..
