Engine settings
Hello all!
I was working on my sidevalve today. And I'd like to know the settings of the engine. How much do I torque up the bolts etc. What is the valve clearance
Oh and how do I get the rust out of my water channels?
I have got it moving btw, so it turns over by hand

Onne, have a look at this website:

The first book (The book of the Morris Eight and the Morris Minor) comes up very often on E-Bay. If you obtain the 1952 or 55 edition it will cover both of your cars.

You'll find there's not too many torque settings listed in the manuals. I've a few different types & none have the head bolt torque settings.
I've followed the 'A' series settings & they've been OK for the last 20 years or so.
The crankshaft bearings cap bolts are lock wired so a bit of variance is needed to line everything up.

In the UK you are entitled to one personal backup copy, any additional copies infringe copyright. Probably best to discuss via PM. (A friend of mine had a police raid a few years ago as he was producing HUNDREDS of copies of bits of software, he only ended up with a £500 fine though and the confiscation of all the CDs)

Cylinder Head Bolts 44lbs.ft.
Main Bearings 42lbs.ft.
Big Ends 27lbs.ft.
Flywheel Bolts 44 lbs.ft.
Do not over tighten or you will stretch the bolts.
