Re: younger members thread.

I think the idea for doing things a little different and modern is excellent, and the diversity of additional groups and events would be a healthy thing for the club - but I dont think it should be called "the young owners register". I think the name excludes older members who are interest...

Re: JLH

Is this not all a bit silly? Are the terms and conditions not a bit too over the top? We're all adults here, we've all got the same things at best interest, why do we have to be moderated like children? What about all moderators refraining from posts entirely and see how things go. I dont agree with...

I am shocked!!!!!! I can't believe it!!!! I dont know the reasons for him getting kicked off, but I know he was always helpful, and was a regular and reliable contributor to these forums - and a nice fella to boot. Whatever the reasons for banning him, I can't help but think the MMOC has cut its nos...

Re: stolen VPD 813

I think vehicle tracking will end up being the only solution to stopping this, as stolen cars could be tracked to the thief immediately, and brought to justice before they get a chance to strip the car.

As always, a barrage of helpful answers and advice! Thanks a lot.

I liked BMC's idea of a board on the cross member to slide the engine over.

Lifting out the engine...

Hi all, I'm looking to pick a few brains here, on how other people have removed their engines - I mean the actual lifting of it. I was going to dril a hole through the top of wooden joist and use a block and tackle to lift it out - although I'm not sure if the joist would be strong enough - maybe I ...

Ramsey in Peterborough/Cambridge Area

Hi, Just replied to another post on strange things you find in your car, that indicate its history (old coins, Jimi Hendrix tape, etc) and got me thinking about my car... It was registered in Peterborough in 1956, to Mr Cyril Flowers of Bury Road, in Ramsey. Apparently he was a seed merchant (so I'm...

There is the Stephenson Railway Museum.

Think they have a short section of rail too (at least they did when I was last there - for a rally as it happens)

Series 2 engine stuff

I always thought the fans on Minors were yellow, but looking at my engine (which I'm pretty sure is probably original paint), the fan looks like it was red from whats left of the paint that's on it. Anyone know for sure? Also, I've removed the radiator and given it a quick clean on the pipe fittings...

Re: Rough price for a Series 2 Restoration project

That's a little sad. There's two (hmm, well at least one anyway) cars that could and should be back on the road but will probably ending up getting scrapped or sold a few years down the line for the price you offered.

Until then, they'll just be waiting, and getting worse.

I agree. This sort of thing happens in all trades, where the customer wants the bare minimum done, despite the recommendations of the professional (which is understandable). There are plenty of examples on here of people complaining about shoddy work from "specialists", but this sort of th...

Re: Ideas to attract new young blood into the MMOC

Well I have taken the flood of points about Minor Matters on board and will be taking them to the next liason meeting. As a matter of interest since I asked for comment's apart from moderator's only 4 members and 2 non members offered up ideas so most of the posters must be reasonably happy with Mi...

Not sure how effective a handbrake lock would be, as the cables themselves are on show - can be cut easily.

Re: Ideas to attract new young blood into the MMOC

Despite my criticisms of the magazine, if anything is to change, it does rely a great deal on the members to do their bit (myself included). The obvious things that everyone can do are the "why I like morris minors", "how I came to get mine", "restoration of mine" but l...

Re: Ideas to attract new young blood into the MMOC

A totally different style of writing. My dad gave me a pile of old practical classics mags (from 93) which when you compare with the same magazine today, their writing style has changed a lot. It seems they have moved with the times and so should Minor Matters. But, to be honest, I'd just sack it of...
